Hello! I understand how worrying this is. Briefly and step-by-step, what you can do now: 1. Ask the doctor what their statement is based on — which specific test/analysis (screening, NIPT, biochemistry, maternal age, ultrasound) and what the exact results are. 2. An ultrasound without signs of anomalies lowers the probability, but does not give a 100% guarantee. 3. For a definitive answer they offer diagnostic tests: amniocentesis with karyotype/microarray (provides a reliable result). NIPT is a screening, not a definitive diagnosis. 4. Discuss risks and timing with the doctor: amniocentesis is usually possible at this stage, but discuss complication risks and legal/medical time limits for pregnancy termination with your physician. 5. Ask for a referral to a prenatal diagnostics specialist or a genetic counselor and/or a second opinion from another obstetrician. 6. Support: if needed, I can help draft a list of questions for the doctor or advise how to find a geneticist. If your sister has severe anxiety or symptoms of complications — seek medical attention urgently.
