Hello, we're 3 months old, exclusively breastfed. The stool has started foaming — is that normal? There are no other symptoms.

Hello! Most of the time this is normal — breastfed babies often have foamy/bubbly stools (especially green and with a “fruity” smell) — often due to an excess of “foremilk” or gas. If the baby is active, gaining weight well, feeding normally and has enough wet diapers — there’s no need to worry. Watch for and contact your pediatrician if you see: - fever, vomiting, intense crying/inconsolability; - blood or a large amount of mucus in the stool; - poor weight gain or fewer wet diapers. You can try offering one breast for longer, ensuring a good latch and burping more often. If you have doubts or notice worsening — write, and/or see a doctor.
