I'm 7 weeks pregnant. My neck hurts. Chondrosis. Which ointments or gels can I use? I'm in the hospital with an acute respiratory viral infection (ARVI). I can't go to a neurologist.

At 7 weeks you should be careful with ointments for the neck: many “ordinary” gels for chondrosis, especially those containing diclofenac, ketoprofen and similar anti-inflammatory substances, should not be applied during pregnancy without a prescription, even if it’s only on the skin. Since you’re already in the hospital with an acute respiratory viral infection, the safest course is to ask your treating doctor to coordinate pain relief taking the pregnancy into account. For now you can help the neck without medicines: keep a comfortable position, don’t lie for long with your neck bent, use gentle dry heat with a scarf if you don’t have a high temperature, and make very careful movements without sudden turns. If the pain radiates to your arm, or weakness, numbness, a severe headache appear, or the pain increases sharply — tell the medical staff immediately; a neurologist should then be involved on site.
