  • Hello everyone! My baby is 18 days old and it seems like he's develope...

Hello everyone! My baby is 18 days old and it seems like he's developed an allergy. The doctor hasn't been able to visit us yet, and the nurse said that we should try a diet for a couple of days and eliminate dairy. I'm worried that he might have diastasis, as his cheeks are very red and his face has broken out extensively. He also spits up a lot after feeding, even though I lay him on his stomach before feeding and carry him upright afterwards. It's possible I'm just worrying too much and this is just "blooming" with an allergy. Could you please advise how to distinguish between the conditions and what I can generally give the baby to help the allergy pass more quickly? I've attached a photo below, though it doesn't show the severe redness, in person his cheeks are very bright red.

Hello! First and foremost, it is important to consult a doctor for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. If you suspect an allergy, eliminating dairy products from your diet might indeed help. It is also worth paying attention to other potential allergens such as gluten, eggs, nuts, etc. To differentiate between an allergy and diathesis, you can look at the symptoms. Allergies usually manifest as red spots, itching, and swelling, while diathesis often appears as dryness and flaking of the skin. Additionally, regurgitation after feeding can be a sign of both allergies and diathesis. To help your baby, you might try giving them some chamomile or calendula decoction to reduce skin inflammation. It is also important to pay attention to skin hygiene and use hypoallergenic care products. But, I will repeat, the most important thing is to consult a doctor for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. I hope your little one gets better soon!

This is not an allergy, the baby is just "blooming," it's newborn acne, there's no need to do anything. Only standard care, a suitable cream. Also, your diet does not affect the baby's reaction, this has already been proven.

Анастасия , The thing is that all the doctors say different things and I don't even know whom to believe; I also don't want to harm the baby. For now, I'm trying to stick to eating porridges and soups to minimize the risks. Thank you for your response 🫶🏽.

Алина , There are just a lot of uneducated doctors, especially in public clinics. Don't worry, I am more than sure that it's acne. And you don't need a diet, just read about it on the internet. Also, find and follow modern evidence-based medicine doctors on social media, listen to their videos, read their posts. Many questions get answered when a knowledgeable doctor speaks.

Анастасия , I am indeed reading about it, and everywhere they advise and claim different things 🫣 Following the advice of acquaintances, I found a doctor in a private clinic and we plan to go for a consultation soon. I understand that I need to take the baby to doctors monthly, but with our inconsistent doctor, I'm afraid I won't last 🥲 The redness has subsided thanks to Bepanthen, I'm not applying it anymore and will see what happens next, and indeed the pimples have started to clear up. I'm very glad it's not an allergy, because genetically he has digestive system issues (we had the test done twice on the doctor's advice), so I'm still a bit panicky.

This is neonatal acne, it will go away on its own, you can just wash more often 🙂. Spitting up to the volume of 2 tablespoons is considered normal. And food allergies usually manifest not only on the face but all over the body with different spots, flat and pink.

Tina , As the pediatrician explained to me, the rash can appear on the face, head, and down to the lower part of the chest.

Hello, the rash below the neck does not spread downward, there is no need to apply anything to it, nor to squeeze it or anything similar; it goes away on its own without a trace. If the rash has spread over the body, it might be an allergy. Spitting up is normal; usually, it stops after the child starts to sit up and crawl. Our child's rash quickly went away when we started giving them Bifidumbacterium in ampoules, which can be diluted with boiled water or your own milk up to 5ml and slowly injected into the cheek with a syringe. It improves the gut flora and function. As for the mother's diet, indeed, what we eat affects the composition of the milk, as food is broken down and enters the bloodstream, and from there into the milk. Therefore, those who blindly believe that food does not have an effect, do not believe them. My child had bloody stools when I consumed dairy products and reacted sharply to other foods I ate; at first, I also heard here that you can eat everything, but that is not true. You need to eat healthy, approved food, you need to eat calorically, otherwise, you will feel unwell; you cannot just live on porridge alone. Eat meat, vegetables, grains, drink compotes, all food must be thermally processed to ensure fewer problems for the child. Then, as they grow older, gradually add new products to your diet.

We have the same face. It's acne. Wash with water. The doctor said not to apply cream so as not to clog the pores. It will pass over time.

Julia , I applied Bepanthen in a very thin layer to reduce the redness, and it helped. I applied it for 3 days and now I have stopped because everything has calmed down and the nurse said that I could stop applying it. I never do anything on my own, only with doctors' permission. Thank you for your response❤️

Don't touch it, it will go away on its own. Sometimes it's from the hair, the child might have an itch. We had the same thing, and as soon as we shaved it, it went away the next day.

If it's not below the neck, then it's just a rash; it will go away on its own. But if it spreads to the folds of the skin, then you should at least pay attention to using alcohol-based products.
