It's better not to be on top. And, in general, positions that involve deep penetration. Sex should be gentle.

My husband and I did it in many positions. If it hurt we just changed position. It was comfortable in the "spooning" position (on the side), from behind, and on top. Regarding safety, the main thing is that it's comfortable for you and doesn't hurt! For example, even not-so-gentle sex was comfortable for me almost until the end, and everything was fine. So it's purely about how it feels.
