Good afternoon. My child started having clear nasal discharge at 5.5 months. Have we caught a cold, or could it be a reaction to teething? There are no other concerns.

Good day! Clear runny nose in a 5.5-month-old child can be caused by either a cold or a reaction to teething. Usually, if the child does not have other symptoms of a cold, such as cough, fever, or nasal congestion, it is most likely related to the teething process. In this case, you can try using special gel products to relieve itching and pain in the gums. However, if the symptoms worsen or do not subside within a few days, it is recommended to consult a doctor for advice and necessary treatment.

It could be related to the teeth; our younger daughter had clear blisters running to her teeth.

I've never really worried about a runny nose if there are no other symptoms. I just clean the snot with a swab and drop a little Aquamaris into the nose. The runny nose could be due to teething.
