Girls, I'm in tears. My baby is almost 4 months old. Caught the flu, has a stuffy nose, cough, and a temperature of 37.3°C. The doctors say not to bring the fever down, but I'm giving ibuprofen anyway. Has anyone else had small children who were sick? How did you cope? What did you treat them with? They prescribed Augmentin for us yesterday; I've already given one dose but I don't see any improvement. Please help me, my heart is breaking.

Dear, don't worry so much. The flu is a serious illness, but with the right treatment and care, your little one will soon recover. Follow the doctor's recommendations, do not reduce the fever without his permission. Augmentin is a good antibiotic that will help fight the infection. In addition, ensure comfortable conditions for the child: humidity in the air, cleanliness in the room, and regular ventilation. Give your child more fluids to moisten the mucous membranes. Do not hesitate to contact the doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Everything will be fine, hang in there and be strong for your little one.

Hello, was the flu diagnosed based on your symptoms, or did you have tests done? Augmentin is an antibiotic; to prescribe it, you need to be certain that your little one has a bacterial infection, and even then, pediatricians try to avoid using antibiotics. They prescribe them only if the child has been sick for a long time and with a prolonged fever. Regarding you reducing the fever, that is not correct; you are not allowing the child's body to fight the infection and develop antibodies on its own. It's a different matter if the little one is really feeling unwell, and then, the fever is reduced when it reaches 38-38.5 degrees. Frequently rinse the nose with Aquamaris or saline solution, set up a humidifier, air out the room, and give plenty of warm water to drink. And most importantly, do not worry, we were also sick at your age, and children tend to handle colds or the flu much easier than adults.

Is this even considered a normal temperature for such a child? You should reduce the fever if the child really feels bad at 38.5, and you can also do it at 38, but not this one. Go see a proper pediatrician, you have plenty of them there, get some tests done, don't just stuff the child with medicine. Rinse their little nose, give them warm water and breastfeed more often if you are nursing.

Why are you bringing down the fever if even the doctors told you it's not necessary and the thermometer only shows 37°C 🤦🏻‍♀️? You really need to calm down. It must be your first child. All children get sick, what do you mean by how to cope? When they start going to kindergarten, they will be sick every month; what, should they be laid in a coffin then? Based on your description, it's just a common virus. Follow the recommendations of a competent doctor, rinse the nose, keep your child hydrated, air out the room, go for walks, and don't reduce a mild fever, as the body fights the infection in this way.

Don't worry, I understand. Don't panic, 37.3 is normal. Feed more often, wipe with a soft cloth where there are folds, and remove the diaper.

Acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) usually resolve within 5 days without antibiotics or antivirals. It's necessary to reduce fever if the thermometer shows more than 38-38.5 degrees Celsius. At 37.3 degrees, if the child is restless and not drinking milk, then you can reduce the fever. The child's body needs to fight the virus on its own, which is why the body temperature rises to eliminate the virus. It's important to rinse the nose, go for walks when the temperature is normal, frequently air out the room, breastfeed more often, and not panic, because your state of mind affects the child. Regarding a cough, if you have a dry cough, you need to moisten it, which can be done using a humidifier or by placing a wet towel on the radiator. Then, when the cough becomes productive, perform drainage massage and that's it.
