The umbilical cord stump of the newborn has dried up and fallen off. Can the child now be bathed, and how should one care for the navel until it has fully healed? And also, there's a little bit left on the belly button, will it fall off on its own or what should be done?

When the umbilical stump has dried up and fallen off, it means that the umbilical wound has begun to heal. After this, you can start bathing your baby, but you should be careful not to wet the umbilical area. The following care is recommended for the umbilical cord until it is fully healed: 1. Perform daily hygienic treatment of the umbilical area. Use an alcohol solution or chlorhexidine to prevent infection. 2. If necessary, treat the umbilical area after each diaper change. 3. Ensure good ventilation of the umbilical area to speed up healing. 4. Do not try to accelerate the detachment of the umbilical stump; let it happen naturally. If you have any doubts or problems with your child's umbilical area, it is recommended to consult a doctor for advice and further recommendations.

Татuu , You can bathe in the same way, just be careful not to wet the belly button. If it has fallen off, it means it is healing. Treat it not with alcohol but with hydrogen peroxide carefully, and you can apply brilliant green.

Every day it needs to be treated because the belly button is an open wound and an infection can enter at any moment, so keep an eye on the belly button.

We bathed with the clamp on. Just after each bath, use hydrogen peroxide and shine a light through with a cotton swab or disk. After the clamp falls off, do the same until fully healed.

Кристина , Thank you very much, but can it be covered with a diaper? Or should it be left open?

"I bathed with the umbilical cord stump, and when it fell off, they said there was no need to treat it, but if something was needed, to apply hydrogen peroxide or brilliant green."

If it has fallen off, it means everything has healed, nothing is open there. Feel free to bathe with the belly button exposed. After bathing, treat it as before: drop some hydrogen peroxide into the hole, let it "fizz," and if it fizzes, dab it with a cotton ball.

You can bathe with the clamp on. Treat with hydrogen peroxide and after each bath, dab the navel with a cotton swab or cotton to keep it dry and prevent it from becoming infected. And be sure to dry it; we used alcohol to dry it because the green color can hide any festering if it doesn't heal well. But! Use 70% alcohol, and just a little bit, otherwise it will cause a burn.

You could swim from the moment you were discharged.

Анастасия , We couldn't because after the injections, bathing was not allowed for 2-3 days.

We bathed the baby by pouring water over him; dad held him in his arms while I poured the water. It's better not to soak in the tub, it's not recommended. Treat with hydrogen peroxide, as mentioned above, and dab it dry. Hydrogen peroxide is an antiseptic and speeds up the healing process.

After bathing, I would just dry the belly button and treat it with alcohol, and also every morning with alcohol. After the belly button had completely fallen off, I didn't treat it with anything and everything was fine. They don't recommend using brilliant green as it can dry it out too much. If there are any remnants left in the belly button, there's no need to touch or pull them out, even if they are hanging by a thread; they will fall off on their own.

You can bathe the baby the day after being discharged from the maternity hospital, even if the umbilical stump is still in place. Just make sure to pat it dry with cotton pads after each bath to ensure no fibers are left behind. You can also treat it with a green antiseptic solution, which dries it well and helps the umbilical stump heal quickly.
