Girls, I'm introducing supplementary feeding, my baby is 2.5 months old. I've already changed three different formulas, I give it once - the baby cries at night and can't poop for a day, then I change the formula. Am I doing this right, or should I try feeding for a few days? The stool turns into a piece of jelly.

The first 2 weeks, the body adapts to the formula. Constipation is normal during this time. When we introduced the formula, we waited 2 weeks and after this period, the bowel movements returned to normal on their own. You can introduce probiotics, but there are no guarantees that they won't cause constipation either. They work very individually. I can recommend the ones we are using. They do not cause constipation in either of our children.

Валентина , We were highly recommended Mamako. But it's increasingly disappearing from our city. I will switch to Kabrita. All mixes are based on goat's milk. We also thought about the mix in the picture. My sister feeds it to her daughter and there have never been any problems with her tummy.

Валентина , By the way, the company Nutrilon has a formula that is suitable for mixed feeding.

The mixture adapts over 2 weeks. We also had constipation from the formula during supplementing. It then normalized. If there's no vomiting or allergy from the formula, it's not worth changing immediately. We actually started right away with goat's milk formula to avoid cow's milk.

Катя Та , It seems like you can't give water on formula. Are you giving it? Mine doesn't drink it.

Валентина , She gave. A little bit. But you also give the formula, so water is still necessary. And this way, the child will be accustomed to water in the future.

Валентина , In cases of constipation, this is the first sign of a lack of water.

Валентина , When breastfeeding, a child does not need water because the milk consists of 80% water. However, with formula feeding, it is necessary to give extra water because even though the formula is water-based, children still need water.

If I remember correctly, not pooping for a day is not scary. Three days is already not good. And yes, you need to use one type of supplementary food for a long time. You can't give all the supplementary foods in one day; it definitely won't be better. Change immediately if you see an abnormal reaction! For example, a rash.

Of course, it is important to monitor the child's reaction to the new formula, but it is also important to remember that the body needs time to adjust to a new product. It might be worth trying to give the new formula for a few days to allow the child's body to adapt to it. However, if the problem persists and the child continues to experience discomfort, it is better to consult a doctor for advice.
