Hello. My son is 1.6 years old. He still doesn't walk; he stands up and holds on well but doesn't want to walk at all. If I help him in any way, he immediately sits down. Should I wait longer, maybe this is normal? Or should I visit an orthopedist? Please advise if anyone has experienced this. My older son started walking early, so I am worried.

Hello. Your son is only 1.6 years old, and every child develops individually. Some children need more time to start walking on their own. Perhaps your son is just not ready for this step yet and needs more time to strengthen his muscles and coordination. However, if you have serious concerns or doubts, it is best to consult a pediatrician or orthopedist for professional advice. The doctor will be able to assess the child's condition and provide recommendations for further actions. There is no need to panic prematurely, but it is better to err on the side of caution and check with a specialist.

It's better to go and consult than to waste time.

He started walking without fear at 1.5 months, although he could have started earlier; he had some kind of fear, I couldn't understand. If he doesn't walk, he still mostly crawls, but I think it's nothing serious. If there are physical therapy sessions available in your city, maybe you could try a couple of sessions?

My daughter started standing up at 8 months, and began crawling at 7.5 months. However, she didn't want to walk for a long time. She would stand holding onto support, but wouldn't take steps; she just stood there, bending and squatting, and even danced without support by the time she was a year old, but still wouldn't take steps. She waited until she was 1 year and 2 months old, and then I just gave up and started leading her by the hand. She started walking on her own a week later; she apparently had some fear. Therefore, I suggest you visit a doctor, and if everything is fine, based on my personal experience, I advise helping out, as maybe your child cannot overcome the fear on their own.

"Did you cut the swaddling bands? I don't believe in such things myself, but my husband insisted that we do it. We read on Google how to properly cut the swaddling bands for a boy and did it ourselves. A few days later, he started walking; he was 1 year and 2 months old. I think, of course, that it's just a coincidence, but who knows... Try it if you haven't done it."
