Hello girls, can you tell me if it's necessary to do NIPT? My gynecologist didn't give me a referral. I'm 30 years old and it seems that you don't have to do it until you're 35. In the country where I live, they say it's better to do an amniocentesis in the second trimester... I don't quite understand yet.

Hello! It's not necessary to do NIPT, especially if your gynecologist doesn't see a need for it. The second trimester usually includes a more thorough ultrasound examination, which can identify any issues with the fetus. If you have any concerns or questions, it's best to discuss them with your doctor to make an informed decision.

Good evening. This is done at the second screening during the 18-20th week. If the tests show deviations, then they suggest amniocentesis. I refused because I vaguely remember there being a 1-2% chance of miscarriage after it, and my child was very much long-awaited. My tests were all good, they suggested it just because of my age. The child was born without any genetic disorders. You might want to find a good sonographer by that time who can examine you and tell you everything.

Anastasia, I didn't have any deviations; they conducted age-related tests on me. They said there is a small risk of Down syndrome due to age, but the rest are fine. These tests are conducted in Kazakhstan during the second screening; they are not informative in the first one. You should visit a gynecologist for a consultation; let them explain everything to you. If these tests are not mandatory and there are no children with deviations in your family, then it might not be necessary to do them.

Anastasia, You should have a doctor prescribe them to you anyway. There are several, but I can't tell you exactly what they are called. Maybe the other girls can tell you.

Катя Та, My geneticist insisted on doing a puncture due to my age. The ultrasound showed everything was fine. So, I went to a good sonographer who did an ultrasound at 20 weeks and told me not to listen to anyone and that everything is in order. There's no need to worry about it prematurely. I understand that you won't be able to stop thinking about these things, but try not to dwell on it.

Anastasia, The first screening at 12-14 weeks identifies risks. If the risks are low, no additional genetic testing is needed. Your doctor will tell you if it is necessary.

Катя Та, In our country, it (NIPT) is paid for and very expensive, and the doctor didn't even say to do it. I just asked to do it, and he says, well, go ahead and do it.

Anastasia, Well, he is not an experienced doctor. He should base his decision to order these tests on some grounds, not just do it arbitrarily. First, go through the second screening, and then decide whether these tests are necessary or not. There are gynecologists available online now; you can consult with them.

"Do you have high risks based on screening or what? What made you consider NIPT?"

Анастасия, A friend of mine told me it would be better to do it, so I started thinking about it and got stressed out.

Anastasia, "Mmmm... I've never encountered anyone getting worked up about this in advance ? listen less to other people's stories. When I got pregnant, my doctor told me: 'Your internet is now me and the nurse.' Just go calmly to the screening, and if everything is okay, relax. Actions should be taken based on facts, not in advance. NIPT is also a screening test, but it's the second step after receiving bad results from the first one. I wouldn't jump the gun."

Anastasia, Do not listen to such acquaintances; it is dangerous for the fetus and possibly for you, especially if the risks are minimal according to the tests.

As far as I know, they do a puncture if the NIPT test shows an abnormality. The NIPT itself just involves drawing blood from a vein. :)

At 34 years old, your first pregnancy is going well. They prescribed a blood test from a vein for abnormalities, and everything was normal. They didn't prescribe anything else, so don't worry prematurely. Go for screenings, take the test, and then everything will be clear. Why are you complicating your life with untimely information? Relax and enjoy your condition, you will miss it later)))

?Филана?, Could you please tell me what the test from Vienna is called and at what stage it is taken? I am in another country (there are differences here), so it is important to know so I can go ask another doctor.

?Филана?, My gynecologist simply says that it's okay to lift heavy weights in the early stages, take any painkillers and steroids (medications). After that, I realized that I need to change doctors.

NIPT is performed after the 10th week. Indeed, based on several indications - for example, age or the presence of chromosomal abnormalities in the family history - doctors strongly recommend it. However, you can also take it independently for your own peace of mind. The test detects the presence/absence of the most common chromosomal defects in the fetus - for example, the most common syndromes, among which is Down syndrome. Also - I am in another country too - here, this test optionally includes the determination of the child's sex, and it is 100% accurate, unlike what a doctor might or might not see on an ultrasound (where there can be errors and human factors). This is a good test, thanks to progressive medicine! Imagine, they just take blood from your vein, and are able to detect so many indicators. This test is based on the fact that there are particles of blood and fetal DNA in the mother's bloodstream, so they extract and analyze these from your blood. It is highly accurate and carries absolutely no risks for either you or your child. If you are prone to anxiety and worry about how your child is developing, I recommend taking it. Good luck!
