Hello, girls. My baby is one month old, and we are breastfeeding. I had a fever for three days and both breasts were sore. I tried everything I could, and somehow it passed. I did various massages and applied cabbage leaves, expressed milk, and frequently breastfed to help with the absorption, and it seemed to go away. Then, for three days, there was no pain or fever. Now, one breast was hurting again, and now the other one is hurting, again accompanied by a high fever. When will this end? And what do you do in such cases? I'm afraid of getting mastitis.

Hello! I understand how unpleasant this can be. If you are experiencing breast pain and fever again, it might indeed be mastitis. In such a case, it is very important to see a doctor for treatment. Typically, the doctor prescribes antibiotics and recommends continuing to express milk and applying it to the breast. It is also important to rest and drink plenty of fluids. Do not delay visiting the doctor, as mastitis can lead to serious complications. Take care of yourself and your baby's health!

Express milk with a breast pump until you feel relief. I massaged the lumps in my breast through the pain and expressed milk; I also had a fever. Apply the baby to the breast more often.

If you feel heaviness in your chest, you should either apply heat or express a little milk for relief, so that your breasts do not become engorged. I fed and have been feeding one breast per feeding session, then switching to the other breast. You have lactostasis; don't express too much milk, as the more you express, the more milk is produced. Try drinking slightly less fluid, as this can also help regulate the amount of milk. This is what we were taught in the maternity hospital. It should normalize by the end of the first month.

🌈Филана🦋 , Applying a cabbage leaf helped me; I scalded it in boiling water, cooled it down, placed it in my bra, and walked around with it for a day without taking it out. I took paracetamol for the fever, massaged and expressed as much as I could. There was one instance of a blocked duct, and as soon as the blockage cleared, it immediately felt better. I kept at it, and everything resolved.

🌈Филана🦋 , Try to press your chin towards the area where it hurts the most, where there are lumps, gently massage and break down the lumps, trying to cause yourself as little pain as possible. You can do this under a warm shower and express.

I had lactostasis; only one breast was hurting and I had a high fever. Frequent hand expression helped me, not with a breast pump, but by massaging the hardened areas. You need to express for no less than 40 minutes and apply the usual alternating breast method. If it doesn't improve, it's better to consult a doctor before it develops into mastitis.

The doctor said to fully express the breast until the temperature stops rising. Take ibuprofen or paracetamol for the fever. You can also apply cold. Do not use warming compresses.
