Hello everyone, how do you get a baby used to a bottle? There's not enough milk, they said to supplement with formula, but the child doesn't know how to eat from a bottle at all, just chews on it and moves it around in his mouth but doesn't "suck." We are 4 months old.

To get your baby used to the bottle, you can try the following methods: 1. Try different types of bottles and nipples to find the one that is comfortable and pleasant for your baby. 2. Approach the feeding process with patience and patiently teach your child how to properly suck on the nipple. You can try squeezing a little milk from the nipple to show the baby how it's done. 3. Try giving your baby the bottle at different times of the day when they are not too hungry or too tired. 4. Gradually increase the number of feedings using the bottle so that the baby gets used to this method of feeding. 5. If the child still does not want to suck from the bottle, consider seeking help from a doctor or a breastfeeding consultant. Remember, every child is unique, and it may take time and patience to get them accustomed to the bottle.

"How did you determine that? Is he not gaining weight?"

If a child is gaining weight well, there is no need to overfeed. Many mothers think that there is not enough milk, but this is not the case. Look at the weight.

We had so little, I thought, and only after weighing did I realize that the weight was increasing, which means it's enough. Also, choosing the right nipple. When I gave her Avent, she screamed, only Dr. Brown's worked for us.

3-4 months is just the normal time for a lactation crisis and its firm establishment. If the baby is gaining weight normally, continue breastfeeding and don't listen to anyone; everything will stabilize in a week or two. If you introduce additional feeding "means" now, you might lose the ability to breastfeed.

Usually, they instinctively suck on whatever ends up in their mouth. We didn't have any problems with this with any of them. But you might try squeezing out a bit of milk with your fingers when the nipple is in the mouth, so they realize there's something there. Or maybe they are really full and need topping up. When they are hungry, they suck on fingers and everything else you give them, they immediately figure out what the nipple is for.
