Hi moms! My name is Alina. I have a daughter (1 month). We had neonatal acne — that's what they told me about the white pimples — but now it's all changed to dryness and I don't understand what it is? Anyone else? I'd be happy to meet you! And what emollients can be used to make it go away?

At 1 month, white spots on the face are often really newborn acne or milia, and then the skin can become dry and flaky as the spots clear. Usually this is not dangerous and does not require “treatment”: don’t squeeze, don’t wipe with alcohol, wash with plain water and avoid overheating. For emollients for such a little one in the UK, people usually choose the simplest fragrance-free products without perfumes, for example petroleum jelly (Vaseline) or a pharmacy emollient like Epaderm, Hydromol, Cetraben applied in a thin layer. If there is oozing, yellow crusts, severe redness, the rash spreads rapidly, or the baby is feeding poorly and is lethargic — it’s better to contact a GP or health visitor.
