Hello ? Today we're going to put in a prosthesis, I'm in the hospital. The question is, who has already had it installed: should they take bacterial swabs before installation or treat them somehow? I asked this same question to the attending physician, and received that nothing is needed... so we'll just put it in, says he, and that's all... It made me uneasy somehow...

Yes, they take a swab, do the prep, hold it for 2–3 seconds and remove it. It doesn't hurt, you don't feel it at all.

And what symptoms indicate that you need to have this put in? Or do they decide based on an ultrasound??

Sara , If the ultrasound shows a short cervix, they either stitch it (but that's done only up to a certain week) or insert a ring.

They took a swab from me, and only after the test results came back and everything was OK did they insert the pessary. And the ring itself wasn't disinfected at all because it was in vacuum packaging and was sterile.
