Hello! I'm 6 weeks pregnant! Can I take Solgar iron? Other supplements make my stomach cramp and I feel nauseous, since my morning sickness has started.

At 6 weeks, in the context of morning sickness, iron really often increases nausea, cramps and constipation, even if the preparation is “good”. Solgar can be taken only as a source of iron, but it’s better to rely not on the brand but on tests: hemoglobin and ferritin. If there is no deficiency, in the first trimester sometimes the doctor allows temporarily postponing iron so as not to torment the stomach. If iron is still prescribed, they usually choose a form that the gut tolerates more easily, and take it not on an empty stomach, separately from calcium, tea and coffee. With vomiting when you can’t drink water, severe weakness or infrequent urination it’s better to contact your obstetrician-gynecologist in the near future. What are your hemoglobin and ferritin?
