When the euphoria associated with childbirth fades, often feelings of sadness, anxiety and worry replace positive emotions, and this state is called "baby blues". This is completely normal and usually disappears within a few weeks. Now let's talk about a more serious one, postpartum depression - it's a serious disorder that begins within a few weeks after childbirth and can last up to 1.5-2 years, but it can be overcome with treatment. ❗️What are the symptoms of postpartum depression? If you have postpartum depression, you likely experience several of the listed conditions: * You feel sad and cry without reason. * You're tired but can't sleep. * You feel apathetic and sleep too much. * You can't stop eating or are completely disinterested in food. You have various unexplained pains (headaches, stomach pain and so on). You don't know why you're irritable, anxious or bad-tempered. Your mood changes suddenly and without reason. It's hard for you to remember things. You can't concentrate. Things that used to interest you no longer do. You feel detached from your child and wonder why you don't feel love for him, you don't find joy in motherhood. Everything seems overwhelming and hopeless. You feel useless and guilty about your feelings. You feel like you can't open up to anyone because they will think you are a bad mother. You want to run away from everything and everyone. You have intrusive thoughts about harming yourself or your child. And if you seriously think you have depression, tell your loved ones and don't be afraid of it. Depression needs treatment?! Contact a specialist, I understand that mothers in maternity leave may not have time for psychologists and psychotherapists, still some are stopped by the financial question. Where is it even 1 hour consultation costs at least 10 thousand. Not everyone has such opportunities. I would like to remind (those living in Kazakhstan) at the clinic where you are registered there is a psychologist who can help you. You can tell your attending physician all your anxieties and thoughts, who upon suspicion of postpartum depression may refer you to a psychologist. And all this is free within the OMS program. If your clinic doesn't have a psychologist, you must (are obliged to) be referred to another medical organization. ⭕️Some women develop postpartum psychosis - a serious mental health problem that requires immediate medical attention. Symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, mania, paranoia and confusion. Here they treat psychiatrists.
