At 39 weeks there's little room left, so movements may not be as big or sweeping, but the baby shouldn't "quiet down" noticeably to you. Usually you don't rely on a perfect number but on the baby's usual rhythm; as a rough guide — about 10 movements over 2 hours during a waking period after eating or while resting on your side. If today there are clearly fewer movements than usual, or you can't count the movements — don't wait until tomorrow; go to the maternity ward emergency department for a CTG. If there's no movement at all — call 103.
