We also had a pacifier dependency. There would be a real tantrum if I didn't give it to him. One day, I gave him the pacifier and told him to throw it away. Then I told him that a dog took it, and whenever he remembered it, I said that the dog ate the pacifier. And that's how he got over it. Then he started sucking his fingers, almost trying to put all his fingers in his mouth, but I don't really focus on that. I just tell him not to do that and that's all.
